General Election Ballots

You do not need to request a general election ballot. Vermont automatically mails ballots to all qualified voters by October 1 of each even-numbered year. This mailing is required by state law. Allowing time for postal delivery, you should receive your ballot in the first half of October. Visit the Vermont Voter Portal to check the mail date and other information.

You can check the status of your ballot at the Vermont Voter Portal. Also see the date it was mailed to you. Not registered to vote? Register online or with your town clerk.

Have you moved within Vermont or won’t receive your original ballot at your usual address? You may request another ballot, but you will need to sign an Affidavit of No Ballot Cast. This protects election integrity by allowing your clerk to ensure one ballot per registered, qualified voter.
