Meet the Town Clerk
Lois Deberville
Hi from a fellow town resident, having lived here for 65+ years.
Since becoming town clerk in March 2023, the #1 rule I’ve learned and adhered to is Follow. The. Statutes.
There is no way around them, I don’t make them up, and I don’t decide which ones to follow and which ones to ignore. I am positive that that’s what my community wants in a public servant!
My duties include but aren’t limited to: record keeping, head of all elections, Board of Civil Authority member, Board of Abatement member, notarizing signatures on documents, and I take LOTS of virtual trainings, and I do a TON of work on the annual town report.
I also offer my services as the Selectboard clerk, running the ZOOM, taking minutes, and transcribing them to post to washingtonvt.org and the Facebook page Washington VT Town Hall News.
The Facebook page is informational only, as government pages are meant to be. I’ve had folks question why comments aren’t allowed…it’s because no one has time to monitor the page to ensure against many kinds of spam and nastiness. Conversations about what is posted can take place amongst the viewers on their own social media platforms.
As an elected official, I answer to the town residents. Feel free to ask me about any aspect of the town clerk’s duties.
Current days/hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays 8-4, no closure for lunch. I close my office on all Federal and Vermont holidays.
(Call ahead if you want to see if any other official is in the office.)
The records vault is yours…stop by anytime to be amazed at the history that has accumulated for over 200 years.

I’ve been your fellow town resident since the 1950’s.
Since becoming town clerk in March 2023, the #1 rule I’ve learned and adhered to is Follow. The. Statutes.
There is no way around them, I don’t make them up, and I don’t decide which ones to follow and which ones to ignore. None of them that I abide by are intended to insult or hurt anyone’s feelings, and the only way to make a change if one is unhappy is to start at the top, with your representatives.
I am positive that that’s what my community wants in a public servant!
