Scholarship opportunity for high school seniors

While I realize that this is a very early warning, I am putting it out there because the town has not received any applicants for the past several years. Hopefully a high school senior will be interested in this wonderful financial assistance.

The Katie Beede & Chris Chaloux Memorial Award is a cash award for Washington high school seniors. The purpose is to recognize young people who touch others’ lives as Katie and Chris did with qualities of courage, compassion, dignity and friendship. It was established in 2006 under the direction of the Beede Family, and turned over to the town in 2011.

·         The applicant must be a high school senior with a current Town of Washington High School Voucher. The applicant does not need to be college-bound. The award may be used towards trade school and/or materials needed to hone a craft.

·         Applicants must submit an essay to the selectboard by the 1st of February stating how they feel they have demonstrated some or all of the qualities of courage, compassion, dignity and friendship. The essay must also state how they intend to use the award.

·         The amount of the award in any given year will be determined by the selectboard. (It is anticipated that the awards will range from $250-$500 at the discretion of the selectboard.)

·         The winner will be announced at Town Meeting.

·         The selectboard reserves the right not to award to any participant in any given year.
